PEDIATRIC SPECIALISTS NETWORK PA was founded in 2009, to fulfill a need for subspecialty services of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in the areas surrounding Houston and Galveston, Texas. This specialty cares for children with acute and chronic diseases involving the gastrointestinal tract and associated accessory organs, as well as nutrition and the diseases of malnutrition.
Dr Villa is one of less than a handful of physicians nationwide, and the only doctor in all of Texas, who completed fellowships and is board certified in both Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, as well as Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. His background makes Dr Villa particularly able to diagnose and treat complicated diseases of the digestive tract, liver, and pancreas, and nutritional difficulties in newborns, children, and young adults.
PEDIATRIC SPECIALISTS NETWORK PA greatly appreciates having Dr Xavier Villa available for appointments and consultations in various hospitals in the Greater Houston/Galveston area, as well as in the Houston Medical Center, to serve families with newborns, children, and young adults with diseases of the digestive tract, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD; Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis), diseases of the liver and pancreas, abdominal pain, and gastroesophageal reflux (GERD).
Dr Villa was asked to remain on staff at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital after completing his training, where he continued to train physicians in the field of Pediatrics, and Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Dr Villa remains on the physician staff at Texas Children's Hospital to this day.
Dr Villa later became the Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Texas Medical Branch, while also specifically designated to care for severely ill children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Dr Villa is uniquely recognized as a pediatric specialist in the Greater Houston/Galveston area, as well as nationally.
Dr Villa completed his fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr Villa then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital.
Dr Villa was able to bring advances to Texas Children's Hospital in the practice of pediatric sedation, particularly during endoscopic procedures, since he was a trainee during his fellowship. The advances ushered into general practice at Texas Children's Hospital by Dr Villa remain today, and help distinguish Texas Children’s Hospital.
